How to set up Cloudflare for your domain Print

  • 0

Cloudflare can sit in front of your website to add caching, a CDN and protection from attacks.

  1. Create a free account at cloudflare.com and click Add a site.
  2. Enter your domain and choose a plan (Free is fine for most sites).
  3. Cloudflare scans your existing DNS records. Compare them with cPanel's Zone Editor and add anything missing, especially MX, SPF/DKIM/DMARC TXT records and any mail subdomains. You can also export your zone from cPanel and import it (see How to export a DNS zone).
  4. Cloudflare gives you two nameservers. In your client portal (or at your registrar), replace ns0/ns1.thundercloud.uk with them.
  5. Wait for Cloudflare to confirm the domain is active.

Recommended settings

  • SSL/TLS › Full (strict)
  • Leave mail records (MX, and the A record for the mail server) as DNS only (grey cloud)

Important

Once Cloudflare manages your DNS, changes made in cPanel's Zone Editor no longer have any effect. Make all future DNS changes in Cloudflare.
