Your server hostname is the address of the server your hosting account lives on. You need it to connect to cPanel, FTP/SFTP, SSH and sometimes email if your domain isn't pointed at us yet.
Where to find it
- Your welcome email: look under the server information section sent when your hosting was set up.
- Client portal: go to Services › My Services, select your hosting package, and look in the server information panel.
- cPanel: the General Information panel on the right-hand side of the cPanel home page shows the server name.
Common uses
| Service | Address |
|---|---|
| cPanel | https://hostname:2083 |
| Webmail | https://hostname:2096 |
| FTP (FTPS) | hostname, port 21 |
| SSH / SFTP | hostname, port 9284 (SSH key required) |
| Email (IMAP/SMTP) | hostname, see our email set-up guides |
Using the hostname rather than your own domain avoids SSL certificate warnings and works before your DNS has propagated.
